Making campaign assets from scratch for 20+ campaigns requires robust processes

If I Made is an online learning platform dedicated to creativity. They partner with artists, bakers, and business owners to share knowledge and support entrepreneurialism. My role was to create campaign assets such as social ads and emails for their courses, like this one from Studio Mondine, a florist. This busy team was incredibly organized and had great processes in place already. They kicked off each campaign project with a brief, a folder of images and assets, and a copy doc. So, as a freelance design, they were a dream come true to work with.

The problem was, we were doing it all in photoshop. As a remote freelancer, exporting hundreds of assets, naming them accordingly, uploading them to the review folder became tedious. Version control was challenging. I spend valuable design hours organizing files for review; and their Art Director had a tough time verifying that changes were made and that the "Final" folders were truly final.

Enter a Figma Organization set up

I pitched a solution. How about Figma? This was before everyone was using it.

First, I created a Figma organization. I leveraged their existing organizational structure and nomenclature and created a system where they could quickly navigate to the course, it's various campaigns, and the most up-to-date asset versions. I set up each course with brand colours and fonts and editable templates for recurring asset formats such as social ads and emails. From there, we got down to work, creating course materials. They could review my work easily, leave comments, and I could make the changes without needing to export and upload to their drive until the assets were truly done. Since their team was  new to Figma, I documented my processes and published an organization-wide how-to guide.
